"Under the Patronage of the Minister of Agriculture, the 41st Cotton Conference Launches in Aleppo to Revitalize the "White Gold" Sector
Under the patronage of the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Amjad Badr, and in the presence of the Governor of Aleppo, Mr. Azzam Gharib, the 41st Cotton Conference commenced today in Aleppo. During the event, Minister Badr emphasized that the cotton crop has been negatively impacted by the war and various climate changes, leading to a significant decline in cultivated areas and production. This, in turn, has reduced the productivity of ginning, spinning, weaving, and oil factories.
The Minister added: "To restore cotton to its former status, we must achieve high production efficiency by increasing the land allocated for its cultivation and improving the yield per unit area. We must also develop current agricultural resources and transition toward modern irrigation systems, while breeding new high-productivity varieties with superior technological qualities that can adapt to climate change and withstand environmental stresses."
Minister Badr also reaffirmed the commitment to enhancing applied research in partnership with universities and national, Arab, and international agricultural research centers. This collaboration aims to develop high-yield, pest-resistant cotton varieties and adopt smart farming and modern irrigation techniques to minimize water waste.
Dr. Mohammad Moari, Director of the Cotton Office, stated that this conference embodies a deep belief in the importance of the cotton crop, which has long served as a fundamental pillar of the national economy and supported agricultural and industrial production chains.
The conference saw participation from the Ministry of Economy and Industry, the University of Aleppo, the Peasants' Union, the Agricultural Bank, the Syndicate of Agricultural Engineers, and several directors of authorities and departments affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture
