President Ahmed Al-Shara issues a decree appointing Basel Hafiz Al-Suwaydan as Minister of Agriculture in Syria

On Saturday, May 9, 2026, the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Ahmed Al-Shara, issued Decree No. (101) of 2026, appointing Mr. Basel Hafiz Al-Suwaydan as Minister of Agriculture.

Academic Background: A graduate in Agricultural Engineering from Damascus University (2008).
Previous Experience: Served as Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Assistant Minister for Administrative and Financial Affairs; he also managed the agriculture and livestock sector at the Sovereign Fund.
Other Roles: Previously chaired the Anti-Illicit Enrichment Committee and served as Director General of the Monetary and Consumer Protection Authority in Idlib.

This appointment came as part of a package of decrees that included other administrative and ministerial changes in the government structure
