President Ahmed al-Shara issues a decree appointing Basel Hafez al-Suwaidan as Minister of Agriculture

President Ahmed al-Shara issued on Saturday, May 9, 2026, Decree No. (101), appointing Mr. Basel Hafez al-Suwaidan as Minister of Agriculture in the Syrian Arab Republic.

This appointment comes as part of a series of presidential decrees involving extensive administrative and ministerial reshuffles, including the appointment of a new Minister of Information, a Secretary-General for the Presidency, and changes in several gubernatorial positions.

Qualifications: Holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering from Damascus University and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Rural Engineering at Idlib University.
Career: Held several positions within the Ministry of Agriculture, including Assistant Minister for Administrative and Financial Affairs. He also managed the agricultural sector in the "Sovereign Fund" and chaired the Anti-Illicit Enrichment Committee
