The Directorate of Culture in Damascus, in cooperation with the Chamber of Agriculture in Damascus and its Countryside, held a specialized seminar today, Monday, titled "Nurseries and Sapling Production" at the Arab Cultural Center in Al-Adawi, as part of their joint scientific events program.
The keynote speaker, Mr. Hassan Haliwa, a board member of the Chamber and head of the Nurseries Committee in Syria, reviewed the pivotal role of nurseries as the cornerstone of the plant sector. Haliwa called for adopting modern scientific methods in plant propagation, breeding, pest control, and selecting appropriate rootstocks to ensure the quality of saplings and boost farmers' productivity.{C}
He highlighted the Nurseries Committee's plans to regulate the profession, curb violations, and train producers to supply the local market with fruit and ornamental saplings that meet international standards, citing the Chamber's recent success in importing the first shipment of Italian ornamental trees.
The seminar was widely attended by agricultural engineers, students, and nursery owners, featuring vital discussions on sector challenges and ways to support agricultural investment.
