Reviving the Syrian Countryside: Damascus Chamber of Agriculture's Vision for Green Economy and Food Security
The Damascus Chamber of Agriculture and its Countryside is striving diligently to develop agriculture and livestock production in Damascus and its Ghouta. Its sponsorship of Professor Al-Asfar's lecture on the necessity of returning to a green economy and its sustainable development is evidence of a distinguished civilized path.
Professor Mohanad revealed a dark nebula from which Syria has suffered for sixty years; neglecting the countryside from a developmental and civilized perspective has plunged us into economic, social, moral, financial, and health disasters. Therefore, reviving agriculture and livestock production means reviving the countryside culturally and civilly.
Self-sufficiency and food security are heavily dependent on livestock and its products. Professor Mohanad Al-Asfar recommended the necessity of importing Dutch cows, developing the local Shami (Damascene) cattle, and breeding Shami goats, which frequently give birth to twins and provide abundant milk and meat.
He also called for the construction of water dams in all villages and rural areas, and emphasized the cultivation of fodder crops using modern methods. Furthermore, he recommended delivering awareness lectures to develop livestock using modern techniques, combined with touches of kindness, compassion, and mercy. Livestock was created for us by Almighty God to secure our food, health, wellness, and a sound mind.
We express our gratitude to Professor Mohammad Janan for embracing these scientific figures. If we shed light on such minds, Syria will live a prosperous, comfortable, and peaceful life
